Visitors

Welcome to our beautiful city!

The City of Beaufort’s history dates to the 1500s, when the Spanish founded Santa Elena in 1566 on Parris Island in Port Royal Sound.

It’s not surprising that Beaufort celebrates its history, and that our Historic District is one of our crown jewels.

Almost every year, it seems, we are recognized in national and regional travel and lifestyle magazines and websites as being one of the most charming and lovely small cities in the United States. (And we are!)

If you are visiting our fair city, you will not run out of things to do. We offer:

  • A vibrant and fun downtown, packed with charming stores and wonderful restaurants
  • Museums and artists’ galleries
  • Historic sites
  • Carriage and bus tours
  • Theater and concerts
  • Fishing, boating, kayaking
  • Golf
  • Bicycling
