The Department of Community and Economic Development comprises Planning, Building Codes, and Code Enforcement and is responsible for:
Enhancing economic opportunities
Long range planning
Collaboration with regional planning
Ensuring that proposed changes to real property are in accordance with the City’s ordinances
The planning section is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Beaufort Code, review and coordination of changes to the legal boundaries of real property, and for coordination of the design review process.
The Building Codes Section is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City’s adopted building codes through the issuance of permits, review of technical development plans, and inspection of construction work.
The Code Enforcement Section is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City’s adopted property maintenance code and for ensuring that real properties do not create a hazard for the public.
