Beaufort Pride of Place

Pride of PlaceSustaining and enriching Beaufort pride

Beaufort Pride of Place is a community improvement program that seeks to directly involve our residents and visitors in improving and beautifying our city. Beaufort is blessed with a rich history, stunning natural beauty, a vibrant downtown, and charming and historic neighborhoods.

Beaufort Pride of Place hopes to harness the talents, energy, and generosity of our diverse citizenry to further enhance the very special character of our beloved city. We hope that through the efforts of us all, we can continue to build on the sense of civic pride and community spirit that has always made and will continue to make Beaufort a unique and exceptional place to live, work, and visit.

Special projects

We have also used Beaufort Pride of Place as an easy way to donate toward certain causes, such as providing extra masks in Lowcountry communities during the early rounds of Covid-19.

The Search for Stuarts Town

A 17th century settlement of Scots on Port Royal Island? Stuarts Town? Beneath present-day Beaufort, South Carolina? Perhaps.

That’s the mystery the Stuarts Town Action Group hopes to solve as it launches an archaeological dig, led by Dr. Chester DePratter, Research Professor, South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. The Stuarts Town Action Group is accepting contributions for this project as it conducts the dig in August of 2022 in The Point neighborhood. Read more here.

Ukraine relief fund

We are currently accepting donations for Ukrainian relief to help our adopted "sister" city of Ostroh, in western Ukraine. You can read more about that here.

Volunteer, donate, spread the word: Get involved!

There are many ways to get involved. Everyone can do something. What can you, your business, or your civic organization do to support this initiative and make our Pride of Place even stronger? We have compiled a list of key Pride projects that are "needed and ready to go" once sufficient funds have been identified and dedicated.

Donate

Pride of Place donations can be designated for general or specific use. If you donate for general use, your monies will be earmarked toward any of the city-approved projects, at the discretion of the program administrator. If your donation is specific to a particular project then those monies will be used for that purpose. Monies donated for a dedicated item, such as a park bench, swing, or tree, etc., are only accepted if the donation covers the complete cost of the dedicated item. Please see the list below of approved projects or view our brochure

The City of Beaufort accepts three methods for making donations to the Pride of Place program. Donors must complete a donation card to ensure that the donation is recorded as designated, and proper recognition can be provided tax-deduction purposes. Please email your donation card to: kkittle@cityofbeaufort.org.

For questions about the program, or to make a donation, please call 843-525-7070.
