Design Review Board

Overview

The City of Beaufort Design Review Board (DRB) is a five-member board composed of an architect, a landscape architect, a civil engineer, a local business owner, and an at-large representative. The members are appointed by City Council for three years. Each member may serve for two consecutive terms.

The board reviews applications for development within the Development Design Districts for compliance with the standards and guidelines of the Beaufort Code, except for those applications where that authority has been delegated to the City’s Planning Department staff. It is the purpose of such review to determine, in a cooperative fashion with the applicant, whether the proposed plan meets the guidelines and other standards of this district. The DRB also reviews and approves master sign plans for new development. Planning staff serves as support for the DRB.

Development Design Districts

Development Design Districts are defined as follows:

“Design Review, either at the Staff or DRB level, is required for all projects in T4, T5, RMX and IC zoning districts, along with all other projects as listed n Section 4.2.2 of the Beaufort Code. Please contact us for more information on the design review process for your specific project.”

NOTE:  THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR NEXT MONTHS MEETING ARE DUE BY NOON OF THE CURRENT MONTHS MEETING. Scheduled dates for review of applications are dependent on the number of applications received.  

Written comments for any project before the board must be submitted by noon (12:00 pm) on the business day before the meeting.
