Overview
A major stormwater drainage project to reduce destructive flooding has been developed for The Point and Downtown neighborhoods. In October 2021, the City began a drainage study in those neighborhoods to assess the state of drainage pipes. The engineering firm Davis & Floyd conducted the study and presented the completed study in August 2022.
The study analyzed and assessed the capacity and condition of drainage infrastructure within the Downtown and Point neighborhoods. It included various modeling using field observations and survey data.It assessed historic, current and future climate conditions.
The study identified current problem chokepoints and current deficiencies in drainage infrastructure.
The study made a number of recommendations for improvements, including various maintenance recommendations and construction needs.
It identified potential funding sources for recommended capital projects. It estimated the total project cost at $21 million.
