The City of Beaufort is committed to to the highest standards of transparency. All of our City Council and board and committee meetings are streamed live on the City's Facebook page, and anyone can join to make a public comment. Our budget, in great detail, is available to be perused by the public. We respond to Freedom of Information requests as promptly as possible.

Beaufort Development Code
The Beaufort Development Code, a form-based code, was passed in 2017. It has been amended since then. It governs all new building and development within the City of Beaufort.
Financial Transparency & Budget
To provide the community with access to City's financial data, the City of Beaufort has engaged OpenGov.com to enable the public to explore the City's budget and financial data online. Users can manipulate the data, drill down to the object code level, and download the data into an Excel spreadsheet with just a few clicks. In addition, this page provides an abundance of overall information about the City's annual budget.
Freedom of Information Act Requests
Public record requests are to be submitted to the City of Beaufort’s clerk. The form is available when you click on the link above. It is the policy of the City of Beaufort to comply with the mandates of S.C. Code of Laws, Title 30, Chapter 4 – Freedom of Information Act. Please allow a minimum of ten (10) business days for an initial response, excluding weekends and City holidays. If this request is for any records older than two (2) years, then the minimum for the initial response shall be twenty (20) business days.
Municipal Code of Ordinances
All City ordinances pass with two readings by City Council.
Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan 2023-2025 reflects the collective will of Beaufort’s City Council in how they intend to direct policy and make decisions on behalf of the residents and business owners of the City. It identifies a work plan for City staff over the course of the next two years. And it provides an important connection between long-term City planning documents and utilization of resources.
