July 20, 2020
Dear Residents:
The drainage area marked by the green line and the homes within the blue boxes in the map have been flooded at times over the past three years for a variety of reasons. The City of Beaufort is undertaking a multi-million dollar drainage improvement project to alleviate this flooding. As part of that project, the selected drainage improvement contractor will begin work to improve infrastructure during the week of July 20. Work will be done between the homes located at 2832 and 2834 West Royal Oaks Drive (highlighted by the red circle). This improvement will enhance the drainage system outlined in both blue and green by increasing rainwater storage capacity, improving flow, and reducing the potential for flooding.
Specifically, the area between the homes at 2832 and 2834 West Royal Oaks will have the old, clogged, and undersized drainage removed and replaced with updated material that has much greater capacity, which will improve drainage. Every effort will be made to preserve trees that do not impede drainage. Additionally, every effort will be taken to eliminate the possibility of disruption to the Marsh. There is no expense to the affected homeowners and the City will work diligently to limit the disruptions associated with the cleanout as best as possible. Construction is expected to last about two weeks. Please contact Neal Pugliese at npugliese@cityofbeaufort.org or 714-357-0811 if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
