[ARCHIVED] Start with First Friday and enjoy downtown Beaufort over Labor Day weekend

BEAUFORT, S.C. (Sept. 1, 2020) – Looking for something fun to do this Labor Day weekend?
Why not head to downtown Beaufort, where merchants and restaurant owners have gone many extra steps to ensure that customers have an enjoyable – and safe – shopping or dining experience.

Merchants in Beaufort have taken the Safe Commitment, ensuring that their shops and restaurants are being regularly cleaned and disinfected. With masks required of patrons and employees, and disinfectant hand sprays at the entrance to every store, shoppers and diners can be assured that patronizing downtown Beaufort will be safe.

This weekend, you can start with the Downtown Beaufort Merchants Association’s First Friday celebration from 5-8 p.m., offering an evening of late-night shopping, dining, and fun while welcoming new downtown business neighbors who will be marking their grand openings. The eclectic mix of downtown businesses, shops, and art galleries will be open late so shoppers  can browse for  unique gifts, one-of-a-kind items, locally curated art and more, before or after having a meal,  beverage, or sweet treat at one downtown’s restaurants or specialty shops.

To make shopping downtown even more rewarding, customers who make purchases at participating stores and businesses will receive a raffle ticket and be entered into a drawing for cash prizes of $200, $100 and $50. The drawing will take place and winners announced at noon on Saturday, Sept. 5, via Facebook Live.

Many of Beaufort’s restaurants offer outdoor dining, several of which front the city’s beautiful Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Here you can enjoy the outdoors without a mask, as long as social distancing is maintained.

Just last week, the City unveiled its new playground at Waterfront Park, offering kids fun climbing structures, slides, swings and a spinner with a Beaufort theme.

Parking is free in the Marina parking lot throughout the Labor Day weekend, beginning Friday and continuing through Monday.

So, if it’s been a while since you’ve come downtown, Labor Day weekend is a great time to sample what Beaufort has to offer – fun shops, great food and dining, wonderful galleries, historic sites, and the beautiful Waterfront Park.
