BEAUFORT, S.C. (Oct. 26, 2020) – The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department has received a $38,000 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The grant will be used to purchase a LifePak 15 cardiac monitor with a built-in defibrillator.

“We are committed to helping organizations such as Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department continue its lifesaving work within local communities. We are honored to be able to award this grant and do our part to ensure that Beaufort and Port Royal are safer for everyone, including first responders,” said Robin Peters, executive director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The equipment will be used initially for training, said Deputy Chief John Robinson. The timing of this grant is fortunate, he said, as it comes on the heels of a $200,749 grant from the Department of Homeland Security, that combined with a City match of $20,000, will allow 24 firefighters to receive advanced emergency medical technician training.

“The LifePak 15 will support this training,” he said, “allowing the firefighters to further their knowledge and skills.” The equipment will then transition to be used during emergency calls.

“We are grateful to the Firehouse Subs Foundation for its generosity and work on behalf of first responders,” Chief Robinson said.

This grant was one of 102 awarded across the country by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The grants totaled more than $2.1 million.
