Feb. 12, 2021
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Please see the maps below that detail the Dominion Energy tree trimming effort from Feb. 12-19. Despite receiving quite a bit of rain this week, we are pleased report that the project is approximately 70% complete.
As Dominion Energy nears completion of the project, they continue to work very well with the City of Beaufort team. Master arborist Michael Murphy, retained by the City of Beaufort, continues to work very closely with Will Epting, an arborist from Dominion Energy. The goal is to ensure consistency in the quality of work being performed. Both Dominion and the City continue to enjoy a very good relationship and are able to resolve issues very quickly.
Not much work was completed this week in The Point given the rain and very tight working quarters. Crews anticipate returning to The Point on Monday, Feb. 15, weather permitting. Given the importance and consequences of tree trimming, crews will be working slowly and methodically to ensure they are making the best possible pruning decisions.
Next week work will take place in The Point, Spanish Point, and the Mossy Oaks neighborhood. The Dominion-contracted crews will work Monday through Saturday to make up for lost time due to weather. The crews are expected to work in Mossy Oaks this Saturday (tomorrow).
Dominion and the crews are doing their best to ensure that they are removing all debris. They try to leave their work areas in better shape than before they arrived. When they miss the mark, please use the contact information below to inform both Dominion and the City so any issues may be resolved as rapidly as possible. Both Dominion Energy and the City fully realize that tree trimming is, rightfully so, a very sensitive issue and we would like to thank the residents and concerned citizens for the continued courteous and civil interactions with the tree crews.
Crews will be working on the following streets in The Point next week.
- Pinckney
- Hancock
- Bayard
- Hamilton (the entire street not just from one intersection to another)
- East
- Washington
- New (entire street)
- Prince
- Federal
- Craven
- Port Republic
If sufficient progress is made other streets to receive tree trimming crews:
- Charles
- Greene
- New Castle
- Harrington
- Wilmington
- North
- Bay
- Spanish Point
- Fort Lyttleton
- Stuart Town Road
- Todd Dr
- McTeer Circle
- Scheper Circle
- Paul Drive
- Center Drive East
- Mossy Oaks Road
- Southside Park Boulevard (entire road)
Each crew has three trucks which typically include two trucks dedicated to pruning and one truck to haul away debris. The crews try to work on only one street at a time in order to avoid creating traffic issues. Crews may also adjust their work locations based on local conditions like weather and traffic.
Safety!
Safety is the No. 1 concern for both the City of Beaufort and Dominion Energy! Please allot extra time when transiting through each of the work areas. Watch out for tree trimmers who are focused on trimming trees and not necessarily on the road. Also remember that if you cannot see heavy machinery operators, they cannot see you.
