[ARCHIVED] City invites public input on American Rescue Plan funds. Here is how you can participate

BEAUFORT, S.C. (Nov. 29, 2021) –  The City of Beaufort will receive a total of $6.54 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan, and is inviting public input to help determine funding priorities.

The City has received half of that amount, and expects to receive the balance by next October.

The American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law last March, contained funding for local governments to help them mitigate the revenue loss they suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic, and also help with other measures. Broadly, the funds can be used to:

  • Address revenue losses incurred during the pandemic
  • Buttress future public health responses
  • Support recovery efforts in the community, including affordable housing
  • Invest in certain infrastructure needs

In a presentation to City Council during Work Session on Oct. 26, City Manager Bill Prokop unveiled a preliminary plan for the funds. Before any final plan is presented, the City wants to solicit public input.

To help determine funding priorities, please take a few minutes to complete a survey at the City’s community engagement site, Civil Space. The survey will be open through the end of the year.
