March 19, 2021
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Yesterday, March 18, Beaufort received about 3 inches of rain in 55 minutes with the bulk of the rain falling within a 25-minute period, which is an astounding amount of water. Despite an enormous amount of water falling within a very short period of time, the new drainage system in Mossy Oaks operated as designed.
Yesterday’s stormwater was collected from more than 550 acres, directed to drainage ditches, and then moved to and through tidal gates at the Spanish Moss Trail via two major water outfalls. We are analyzing stormwater drainage from this storm.
Over the next two weeks we will apply a finishing coat of asphalt to selected areas, including Lawton Farm Road. During the next couple of weeks, work will be done to complete punch-list items. Finally, we are very pleased to announce that the Spanish Moss Trail from Riverside to Brotherhood is now open. There are no trail closures anywhere in the project area.
Have a terrific weekend!
