BEAUFORT, S.C. (Jan. 19, 2023) –  Scott Marshall began his new position as city manager of the City of Beaufort this week.

“I’m grateful to be here working with a tremendously talented staff and council who collectively demonstrate a selfless commitment to the community,” he said. “I look forward to working with our citizens, business community, and other key stakeholders to continue moving the City of Beaufort forward while maintaining its character.”

Said Mayor Stephen Murray, “Scott brings a lot of strengths to the City of Beaufort. His diverse experience in the public sector in Beaufort County, his career in the Air Force, his knowledge of the City of Beaufort, and his ideas made him the right person for this job. I am looking forward to working with him, and I know all our City Council members are as well.”

Marshall succeeded Bill Prokop, who retired this month.

Marshall has extensive experience in public service, having most recently served as director of Beaufort County’s Department of Human Resources. Prior to that, he worked for the Town of Bluffton as deputy town manager and interim town manager. His previous experience includes positions as executive director of the Beaufort County Board of Elections & Voter Registration and director of the Beaufort County Parks & Leisure Services.

Marshall is a retired U.S. Air Force officer, having served for 23 years.

Marshall has a Bachelor of Science in political science and psychology from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration from American Public University. He also has a Master Certificate in Human Resources Management from Villanova University. He is a graduate of the Gettysburg Leadership Institute. He is a member of the International City and County Management Association.

Marshall and his wife, Virginia, live in Beaufort.
