[ARCHIVED] Third annual Cyber Summit to be held March 18-19

South Coast Cyber Center

Beaufort, S.C. (Feb. 27, 2024) – The South Coast Cyber Center will hold its third annual Cyber Summit in Beaufort, S.C., on March 18-19 at Tabby Place in downtown Beaufort.

This year’s summit will highlight “Maritime Cybersecurity” with presentations by internationally recognized experts in the field of cybersecurity as it affects our ports, ships, and abilities to move goods around the world.

The summit will feature U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (1st District, S.C), who is chair of the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Information Technology. Other highlights will include a noon keynote on March 18 by Brigadier Gen. Will Wilburn, U.S. Marine Corps, incoming deputy commander of Marine Corps Cyberspace Command.

Representatives from both FBI Cyber Crimes and the State Law Enforcement Division will provide perspectives on ransom attacks, hacking, and the range of cyber crime across the nation.

“This will be our best summit yet,” said South Coast Cyber Center Executive Director Warren Parker. “We are going to dig into a lot of the national security issues we face in cyber and have a chance to interact with key players on the state and national stage.”

Students studying in the four-year cybersecurity concentration at the University of South Carolina Beaufort and the Associate Degree program in cybersecurity at the Technical College of the Lowcountry will be in attendance both days and have the opportunity to question some of cybersecurity’s top leaders.

According to Parker, a “don’t miss opportunity” will be a chance to listen to Chris Cleary, former principal cyber adviser to the Navy. “Chris is a nationally known leader in cybersecurity and has been an active player in the future of cybersecurity” Parker said. “You don’t want to miss the chance to hear him speak.”
