BEAUFORT, S.C. (Jan. 11, 2020) – Beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 12, the public can comment during City Council meetings via Zoom or through a call-in number. Both work sessions and regular meetings will continue to be livestreamed on the City’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CityBeaufortSC. City Council will not address comments on Facebook, but those who make comments on Facebook can join the Zoom meeting as participants.
Since last March, Beaufort City Council has been meeting virtually to ensure public and council safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. Meetings have been conducted via Zoom; Council agendas specify the Zoom link for participants and a phone call-in number, for those who cannot access Zoom. Comments can also be sent via email prior to the meeting to City Clerk Ivette Burgess, iburgess@cityofbeaufort.org.
Beginning Tuesday, at the start of Work Session at 5 p.m. and Regular Meeting at 7 p.m., the Zoom attendee link will be shared in the comments section of the Facebook live-stream, enabling those who want to comment to do so easily. When comments are made on Facebook going forward, a link will be provided for people to access Zoom, allowing them to make those comments in an official capacity.
Previously, during in-person meetings, comments were taken only during public comment period as specified by the mayor during the meetings. This change better aligns with that practice.
