“City of Beaufort announces convenience fee on electronic transactions”


Beginning on March 1st, 2019 the City of Beaufort will begin collecting convenience fees on online and in person electronic transactions as follows:

Official Payments, the credit card processing vendor, will charge a convenience fee for all payments when a credit/debit card or eCheck is used. All users, whether online or in person, will

pay Official Payments a service fee of 2.75% of the payment amount for each payments transaction, with a minimum service fee of $1.95 per payment transaction when credit cards are

used and 1.65% of the payment amount, with a minimum service fee of $1.95 per payment transaction when debit cards are used as well as a minimum service fee of $1 for each eCheck.”

Payments made in person via check or cash and payments mailed in via check, will continue to be processed without a fee. In addition, for the protection of the consumer, the City will no longer process credit or debit card payments over the phone as the online payments option is now available.
