[ARCHIVED] Shrimp Festival, on Oct. 6-7, promises good food and family fun

BEAUFORT, S.C. (Sept. 19, 2023) –  If you are a shrimp fan – and who in the Lowcountry isn’t? – make sure you’ve cleared your calendar for Oct. 6-7, when the annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival will be celebrated at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. 

(We’ve heard that Forrest Gump and his twirling umbrella might be spotted – if you’re lucky!)

The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. on Oct. 6. The Bon Jovi tribute band Slippery When Wet will take the stage at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Run Forrest Run 5-K, sponsored by the Beaufort Digital Corridor, will begin in downtown Beaufort at 8 a.m.

Food vendors include Belly Full by Tyger (soul food), Food Savvy, Island Fudge Shoppe, Mother Smokin’ Good BBQ, Sea Eagle Market, Signature Catering, Teen Challenge Tasty Creations, Tipsy Ice, and Tout Sweet Macarons.

This is a free event, so bring your family to beautiful Waterfront Park for this fun festival!

Friday, Oct. 6

12-6 p.m.: Arts & Craft Market open
5-10 p.m.: Food and drinks available
5 p.m.: Ces Hage performs
7 p.m.: Slippery When Wet band performs

Saturday, Oct. 7

8 a.m.: Run Forrest Run 5K (timed race) begins. You can register at the Run Forrest Run website for that race and an untimed race.
11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Food and drinks available
10 a.m.: Kids Corner will offer Glitter Boxx face painting and a Kazoobie Kazoo dhoe
11 a.m.: Jason Lee Cook performs
1 p.m.: Official Parris Island Marine Corps Band performs
3 p.m.: 15th annual Charity Shrimp Race, sponsored by Sea Island Rotary
2:15 p.m.: Bennett Coleman performs
3:15 p.m.: Katie Lynn performs
 
Shrimp Fest TShirtShrimp Fest T-shirts will be available for purchase for $25-$28 at the festival. If you want to buy your T-shirt before the festival, the Downtown Operations staff will offer them for sale (cash only), beginning on Thursday, Sept. 21, and continuing Monday through Friday of next week, Sept. 25-29. The office, at 500 Carteret Floor, is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

The City of Beaufort thanks its Jumbo Shrimp Sponsors, which include Lee Distributors, Gay Fish Company, Leaf Filter, Howell Chase Heating, Cooling, Electrical, and Putter Frog.
